Gary Riley has over thirty years of experience in the field of expert systems. While working at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, he was responsible for the design and development of the rule-based components of CLIPS. Since leaving NASA he has continued to independently develop and maintain a public domain version of CLIPS. He is the coauthor of the textbook Expert Systems: Principles and Programming, now in its fourth edition. In addition to creating expert system tools, he has been an expert system tool user as well, developing and maintaining three expert systems over a period of ten years.
